I purchase The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt book by Laurie Aaron Hird. The book contain response letters asking the question would you want your daughter to marry a farmer. The book also contains a CD on it are templates to make the 111; 6 inch blocks that are inspired by the letters.
I am going to make this quilt. My goal is to make 1 to 2 blocks a week. (right now there is so much going on it maybe hard to do.) Share my progress here with every week and see how it is going. Today I did some prep-work. I purchased the fabric. I’m not sure I have enough but the quilt is kind of scrappy. I plan on add more from my stash as needed or purchase some more as I find what I like. After all a quilter “can never have too much fabric”. I washed and press the fabric.
My next step was to read about the first letter and print the templates needed to make the first 2 block. Yes quilters I am making this quilt by hand using templates. I’ll share how I make the templates in my next post.
Here are some reviews about the book itself. The graphic and diagrams are excellent. The instruction on printing the templates are very clear. If followed you should get good results sewing the block together. The Farmer’s Wife sampler quilt is not a how to make a quilt book. Basic understanding of sewing quilt blocks is needed.
